Evaluation

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

All my media texts were made with the same theme running throughout, the same font, colour scheme and effects are used on all with the aim to create a professional campaign. For example my digipak and website host the same images and have a dark hue/saturation effect used on them to give the connotation of rebellion which is conventional to the genre of subgenre of indie- post-punk revival.

All the images used in my campaign are from the same shoot therefore, have a strong link and match. There are two different locations used which are both featured in my music video and were taken on the day of filming. This was really helpful as it did not pose any continuity problems between the looks in regards to the weather or lighting. These images were also taken in the same costume that Yasmin wore in the video which strengthened the look of the video; this meant that as the products all have strong links between the designs and therefore, the media texts are easily recognisable by the audience if they have seen just one product.

This location is featured in all three of my products and shows continuity throughout.
The text used on both of my ancillary texts is the same. The font used throughout is Bell MT in different shades of grey. I felt this really went well with my chosen genre as the colour is quite dark which relates to the type of music the band wants to produce.

The reason behind making the products look so alike is so they all relate back to the artist and have a strong promotional campaign. Therefore, in shops such as HMV my digipak will be easily be recognisable to Creatures if the audience has seen the video or the website.

Overall my products all relate to each other therefore, show that my campaign is successful.

In what ways does your media products use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

How did you use audience feedback?

To improve my work I used audience feedback throughout in order to make a more successful and appealing promotional campaign.

I conducted a survey using 20 males and 20 females aged 17-24 (my main target audience) to rate my products out of 10 theses are the result on some question I posed…

Overall result is that the campaign looks highly professional and my media texts all match indicating a strong promotional campaign as they will all be recognised to link with each other. Some responses indicated that my product did not fit with my genre therefore; I changed my video and added more effects which would then make the video look more post-punk revival. I also made my digipak have a ghost effect over the picture which would create an abstract feel to the product and indicate post-punk revival more.

These result show that all my products link and I have a successful video therefore, a strong promotional campaign. I asked some of the people in the survey to elaborate on their responses by completing a questionnaire.

Results of my questionnaire indicate a strong product that shows link to my genre through editing and the colour scheme and images of my ancillary texts. They verified that all the products linked and understood that this was a strong promotional campaign. The only problem that came apparent through the questionnaire is the suggestion of a costume change. All of the filming had been done therefore I could not rectify this however; through the variety of shots and editing which was praised they show that this is not a major issue as the work looks professional.

Audience feedback has enable me to  have a fresh view of ideas from my target audience which is very helpful as I wouldn’t of necessarily  thought of these issues myself, especially in the problems posed by indicating the genre.

First Draft Music Video

This is my first draft for my music video.

FINAL Digipak

This is my finished Digipak.
I added a ghost effect to make it fit with my promotional music video and therefore, strengthen my campaign.

Second Draft Digipak

I have now changed in accordance to the improvements suggested. But to add more of an effect I would like to add a double layer and change the opacity so to look like she has a ghost. As it is a digipak I need to add another disk for the Music Video. I would like to also change the disk from black and white to colour as this will make it eye-catching.

Website Research

Conventions of a website,

Examples from Arctic Monkeys website http://www.arcticmonkeys.com/

A homepage would feature links to other pages on the website, again these are likely to be located at the top of the page. These usually are kept to a minimum (usually 4 or 5). Key links would include:
  • Home - Just a link back to the home page if you leave it.
  • About/ Bio - biography of the band.
  • Gigs - Gives information about upcoming gigs and festival appearances. This would include links to ticket websites.
  • Videos - will give access to music videos from the band as well as live clips.
  • Photos/Gallery - Images of the band. Can include photos from the studio, as well as live appearances.
  • Store - Gives fans the opportunity to perhaps purchase some of the band's music of even merchandise, such as; t shirts and posters.
  • Sign Up/Login - This is where fans can join mailing list or login as a member of the fan club.
  • Forum - Members can post comments and create subjects about the band in question and interact with other fans. This is becoming increasingly popular with the increase in pull media. Most notably social networking sites.
The page is normal very simplistic and not overly crammed, as it works as a promotional tool and often changes with the release of a new song. There is often a main feature such as a new single/album release that is the focal point of main page. The page does not want to have too much information on as the audience will be swamped and can easily navigate around the website.
